This page is dedicated to the "Grand Dam" of the outfit, Grandola Bars. Let me first tell you how
it came to be that we were lucky enough to own this wonderful lady. In 1997 we had decided to raise a World Show quality stallion of our own. We knew one thing for sure, and that was that we wanted a Privatecollection son. We were studying the mares that were being offered for sale at the 1997 World Show sale and saw that Char-O-Lot ranch was bringing an Abdull's Pok-A-Son daughter who was in foal to Private. We decided that she was the mare who was carrying our new stallion. We even went so far as to name him. His name would be WW Collect The Grand. Plans were made for me to fly down to the World to buy Grandola Bars.
When I arrived at the World Show I immediately went in search of the horses that were being auctioned at the sale. Now I had never been to the World before and had no idea where to look, but I was on a mission. I wanted to see the Dam of our new stallion! I'm sure I looked a little lost, and a lot confused, because it wasn't too long before a very nice gentleman approached me and asked if he could help me. I asked him if he happened to know any of the people from Char-O-Lot Ranch or if not, did he know where the "sale" horses were stalled, because I was there to buy Grandola Bars who was carrying my new stallion who was colored a lot like his sire, Privatecollection. He gave me this big grin and assured me that he did indeed know the people from Char-O-Lot and he could even take me to Grandola Bars stall. I couldn't believe my good luck.
When I got to the right stall, I went inside and had my first talk with Grandola Bars. I fell in love with her on the spot. She was wonderful! I spent quite some time petting her and telling her about how I had come there to take her home, and what her new stud colts name was. She laid her head in the crook of my arm so I figured it was alright with her too.
Well, I went to that sale and I bought that mare and she did indeed have a beautiful stud colt who was, in fact, colored very much like Privatecollection. During the sale, the announcer introduced the president of the ApHC, Larry Edwards. Much to my embarrassment, it was the nice gentleman who took me to Granny's stall. I guess if you're going to make an idiot of yourself you may as well do it in front of someone important, right? Anyway, that's how we came to own Grandola Bars and she was the best thing to happen to our operation, hands down!!
